“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” – Luke 1:37
A moving story of faith, compassion, and perseverance has captured the hearts of Liberians and the world alike the miraculous journey of young Samuka Sheriff, whose life has been transformed through divine intervention and the unwavering efforts of Dr. Henry Peabody, Director of Liberia Mission and CEO of The Closing Argument (TCA).
It began with what seemed like an ordinary Facebook message. “At first, I ignored it,” Dr. Peabody recalled. “The picture was heartbreaking, and I didn’t know where to start. But God had a plan.”
Moved by compassion, Dr. Peabody reached out to his friend Elaine Yourte, Elaine founder nobody’s children in New Hampshire, USA. Within days, doors began to open. Through divine favor, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston agreed to perform a life-saving surgery for Samuka, who was suffering from a massive facial tumor.
In 2020, Samuka his step-mother and a doctor from Liberia traveled to the United States, where surgeons successfully removed the growth. He later returned to Liberia, resuming school at Rosetta Seth Memorial through the support of Ms. Ama Harris manager of SN Brussell, Liberia. For a while, hope was restored. But tragically, the tumor reappeared.
Despite countless setbacks, Dr. Peabody refused to give up. He reconnected with hospitals abroad from the U.S. to India seeking help for Samuka’s worsening condition. Just when every option seemed closed, a miracle happened again.
“Three days before finalizing his travel to India, I received a call from Mercy Ships,” Dr. Peabody said. “They had accepted Samuka as a patient. It was God’s perfect timing.”
In October 2025, Samuka traveled to Sierra Leone, where Mercy Ships was docked. The doctors described the surgery as extremely high-risk a 50/50 chance of survival. Yet faith prevailed. The medical team fasted and prayed, and twelve nurses volunteered to donate blood for the operation.
After ten long hours in surgery, the news arrived: Samuka had made it. The tumor was successfully removed.
Today, the once hopeless boy stands as a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and the power of human compassion. Smiling for the first time without fear or pain, Samuka’s transformation is a reminder that miracles still happen and that God still uses people to change lives.
“When man reaches his limit, God begins His work,” Dr. Peabody reflected. “Samuka’s story is proof that grace still rewrites stories.”
